Chelsea reportedly dream of signing AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per Caught Offside.
After moving to Vitality Stadium from Bristol City, the 23-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before showing glimpses of his qualities last term.
In 39 appearances across all competitions, the midfielder made five goal contributions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the league.
Following Andoni Iraola’s departure, Bournemouth have endured a difficult start under new manager Marco Rose this season, failing to win a Premier League game thus far.
Still, Scott has showcased his qualities, making two goal contributions in six matches in all tournaments. He has even secured his place in the England national team.
Now, Caught Offside claim that despite selling Enzo Fernandez this summer, Chelsea failed to sign a new midfielder to replace the South American.
So, they are considering reinforcing the engine room in January and dream of purchasing Scott. However, Bournemouth might want to hold off on him until the end of this season.
Scott to Chelsea
Chelsea initially wanted to sign him this summer and even launched a formal proposal. But the Cherries refused to let him leave, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
The report state that the West London club are also interested in Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and could make a move for him if they fail to sign Scott.
Xabi Alonso’s side wanted Lamine Camara and came close to signing him on deadline day, but AS Monaco ultimately blocked the transfer, which made the Blues furious.
So, Chelsea aren’t planning to revive their interest in him, and Liverpool have now started showing interest, with the Reds seemingly planning to sign a new midfielder after letting Curtis Jones leave this summer.
Scott, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, likes to be deployed in the box-to-box role but is also efficient in the defensive midfield position. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the CAM role if needed.
The Englishman is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they purchase him.
