Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through Real Madrid’s famous La Fábrica academy, the 31-year-old made his first-team debut back in 2015. However, he struggled to break into the starting line-up.
As a result, he joined Deportivo Alaves on loan the following year to play regularly and develop his career. The Spaniard showcased his qualities at Estadio de Mendizorroza; still, he struggled to break into Los Blancos’ star-studded starting line-up.
Therefore, Llorente decided to join Los Rojiblancos in 2019 and has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win a La Liga title over the years.
Having proven his worth in La Liga, Llorente has secured his place in the Spanish national team, helping his country win the World Cup this summer.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that with the Atletico Madrid star’s existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on signing him by taking advantage of his current situation.
Although Llorente is set to turn 32 next year, the Premier League clubs haven’t been put off by that, with Liverpool and Chelsea looking to reinforce the right-back and midfield next year.
Battle
Apart from the Reds and Blues, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also expressed their interest in him, with the player valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt.
However, the report state that Los Rojiblancos are determined to keep hold of him and are genuinely confident of tying him down to a fresh term over the coming months.
Llorente is a 6ft tall right-footed versatile player. He is a defensive midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. Moreover, he is comfortable in the right-back position and previously even played as a striker under Diego Simeone.
Llorente is a talented player and has proven his worth at the highest level for club and country. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool or Chelsea should either club purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the West London club or the Merseyside club eventually manage to secure his services next year.
