Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, as per German football expert Christian Falk.
After being impressed by the 29-year-old’s performances for Fenerbahce, Napoli decided to purchase him back in 2022. He enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, helping his side win the league title.
Kim attracted the Bavarian club’s attention with his performances in Italy; as a result, they purchased him the following year. Although he has won two Bundesliga titles and a few domestic cup competitions in Germany, he has struggled to flourish in his career.
Still, Kim has continued to play a key role in the South Korean national team’s starting line-up. Now, on FC Bayern Insider, Falk reports that Tottenham have expressed their interest in the Bayern Munich star and held talks over a potential swoop this summer but didn’t make a formal approach.
However, the Lilywhites will have to overcome several obstacles to seal the deal. Aston Villa and AC Milan are also in this race, while the player wants to stay at Bayern Munich by extending his deal, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
Kim is unlikely to leave in mid-season, but the situation might change next summer if the German giants eventually don’t opt to extend the South Korean’s contract.
Kim is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Kim to Tottenham
Having struggled with defensive frailties over the last two seasons, the Lilywhites decided to upgrade the backline by signing Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson this summer.
Still, Spurs have endured a dire start this season, languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table with two points from five games. They are yet to win a league encounter this season.
As a result, it appears Tottenham are considering reinforcing the backline further. Kim is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Roberto De Zerbi’s side if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
