Everton eye move to sign Juventus’ Teun Koopmeiners

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, as per Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.
After joining Atalanta from AZ Alkmaar, the Dutchman enjoyed a stellar time, helping La Dea win the Europa League. He even showcased his productivity during the 2023/24 campaign, making 22 goal contributions across all competitions.
Having been impressed by his performances, the Bianconeri decided to purchase him a couple of years ago, but he has struggled to find his feet at the Allianz Stadium.
However, he has enjoyed a promising start this season, even though he has featured as a rotational option under Luciano Spalletti, making two goal contributions in only one league start.
Now, La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus are prepared to cash-in on Koopmeiners next year if he fails to return to his best over the coming months.
Everton previously expressed their interest in signing him during the summer transfer window but never made a formal approach. However, they could make a move to secure his services on a loan deal in January if he becomes available.
Apart from the Toffees, Newcastle United, AS Monaco and Galatasaray were also interested in signing him this summer and could make a move in January.
Koopmeiners to Everton
Koopmeiners is a left-footed versatile player as he can play in the defensive midfield and box-to-box roles. Furthermore, he has played in the centre-back and second striker positions for Juventus.
Following Tim Iroegbunam and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s departure this summer, Everton decided to reinforce the midfield department by signing Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard.
However, the Dane has struggled with fitness problems this season, while Hackney has failed to break into David Moyes’ starting line-up. So, it appears the Merseyside club are exploring the possibilities of purchasing a new midfielder.
Although Koopmeiners, valued at around £12m by Transfermarkt, has struggled at Juventus in recent years, he is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
Therefore, the Netherlands international might be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they eventually manage to lure him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January or next summer.
