Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur find themselves on the opposing ends of the Premier League standings five matchdays into the campaign but are facing a common issue – their offensive department.
While the Lilywhites have scored only two goals so far in the league season, the Gunners have not yielded much output through Viktor Gyokeres, while Gabriel Jesus’ sale has meant there is a need for a new number nine’s signing.
The Sun has reported that Arsenal and Tottenham are set to reignite their pursuit of Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi during the January transfer window having paused their pursuit in the summer after his long-term injury.
Kroupi was one of Bournemouth’s standout players last season and had it not been for his injury, he may have already left the Cherries for a bigger side. The 20-year-old is valued at £80 million by the club.
Arsenal will be favourites to sign Kroupi
Following a very underwhelming start to the season, it comes as no surprise Tottenham Hotspur want to revamp their attack but Eli Junior Kroupi’s signing may be too ambitious for them amidst competition from Arsenal and where they are in the standings.
Arsenal, who did not spend big on any offensive signing in the summer, have the funds to get Eli Junior Kroupi’s signing over the line and Mikel Arteta would believe the Frenchman’s qualities could lead him to more success in the near future.
Kroupi’s excellent close control, ability to change directions, long shots and movement off the ball are key, while his ability to drop into spaces between midfield and offence will provide the Gunners with some tactical flexibility in attack.
Defensively, Kroupi contributes a big deal with his relentless pressing and therefore, all signs point towards him being a terrific signing. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back after his injury and whether Bournemouth are ready to sell him in the winter.
