Liverpool battling with Chelsea and Manchester United for Barcelona star Marc Bernal

Liverpool targets Barcelona's Marc Bernal for 2027 move — Ajel English

Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season in their opening five outings, but there remains a lot of room for improvement not just on the pitch, but in their squad as well.

Interestingly, they did not revamp their midfield during the summer transfer window but that role could very soon become a priority area with only Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch available to the Reds.

Fichajes has reported that Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has emerged as a prospective target for Liverpool, but they will have to beat some fierce competition to sign him as Chelsea and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the youngster.

Bernal is highly regarded at Barca but Rodri’s signing from Manchester City means he faces a very limited role under Hansi Flick, and as a result, the door is open for him to leave the club in 2027. The 19-year-old is valued at £34 million on Transfermarkt.

A quality signing for Liverpool

With Alexis Mac Allister playing decently and Dominik Szoboszlai practically indispensable from the Liverpool midfield, Marc Bernal is not likely to play a primary role for the club but he will get far more minutes than he does at Barcelona.

He promises to be a terrific signing for the Reds. The Spanish teenager is tall, boasts strong aerial abilities and reads the game very well to make interceptions. He also uses his physique to shield the ball from the opponents and win ground duels.

Marc Bernal is very comfortable in possession as he plays accurate short passes or long diagonal balls to help orchestrate the game, while being effective under pressure. All in all, he has a very high potential with some differential skillsets already.

Chelsea and Manchester United have more depth in midfield than Liverpool, so they may not have as much of a preference for Bernal as Liverpool considering he wants to play regular minutes if he leaves Barcelona.

Therefore, Liverpool will be confident that they can materialise interest in him soon and it will be interesting to see if there is any room for a January deal to be done for Bernal.
