Tottenham Hotspur have scored only two goals in the Premier League in five outings this season, and despite investing a massive sum of money on transfers during the summer, it is fair to say the team’s performances have been very underwhelming.
Offensively, the Lilywhites have lacked any creativity or intent, and that has reflected in them not being able to add no league wins on the board ahead of the international break. They are looking to change things, however, with new acquisitions being lined up.
According to Portuguese source A Bola, Benfica marksman Vangelis Pavlidis is the latest player on Tottenham’s radar as they look to bring in a new number nine with Richarlison not in their plans and Dominic Solanke struggling for form.
Despite bringing in Omar Marmoush from Manchester City last month, Pavlidis’ addition is viewed favourably off the back of his red hot form for Benfica in Liga NOS, where he has eight goals and two assists in only seven outings this season.
Pavlidis transfer could be possible next summer
Vangelis Pavlidis has been one of the best players in the Portuguese league since a couple of years and a move to a bigger side in one of Europe’s top five leagues is only a matter of time. He is valued at a very affordable £30 million on Transfermarkt.
It is likely that the player will need to wait until next summer for a transfer to the Premier League, a division he dreams of joining as per A Bola, as Benfica might not want to part company with arguably their best player in January, midway through the season.
For Tottenham Hotspur to be able to secure his signing, survival in the Premier League will be vital but their pursuit of the Greek international could complicate if clubs playing in the Champions League decide to show an interest in his acquisition.
Pavlidis would be an excellent addition for Spurs, or anywhere else he goes. His clinical finishing, strong work rate and sharp positioning are his top attributes, while his strong physique and aerial prowess make the 27-year-old the perfect number nine.
