Man Utd keen on signing Newcastle star Lewis Hall

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, as per Football Insider.
The Red Devils currently have Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as specialist left-back options. However, the Englishman has continued to struggle with fitness problems over the years, although he started all 38 Premier League games last term.
He has been out injured in recent weeks. On the other hand, Dorgu has struggled with hamstring problems in recent months and is set to remain sidelined over the next few weeks.
As a result, Michael Carrick has used Diogo Dalot, Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui in the left-back position. However, Heaven is a centre-back by trait, while Dalot and Mazraoui are right-backs.
So, it appears United are considering reinforcing the left side of the defence next year. Football Insider state that Man Utd initially wanted to reinforce this position this summer and identified Hall as the primary target.
However, Michael Carrick’s side ultimately decided against signing him, choosing instead to focus on strengthening the engine room. Now, they are looking to upgrade the left-back position next year and remain keen on Hall.
The Englishman has recently signed a long-term contract until 2031, but United haven’t been put off by that. Newcastle won’t let him leave in January and want more than £70m to sell him next summer.
Hall to Man Utd
Since moving to St James’ Park from Chelsea, Hall has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent years. He is a technically gifted left-footed left-back; moreover, the Englishman is quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and is comfortable playing out from the back.
Furthermore, Hall can take set-pieces and is efficient in defensive contributions. Having proven his worth in club football, he has secured his place in the England national team.
The 22-year-old is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually manage to secure the Newcastle star’s services next year.
