Tottenham Hotspur signed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali in lucrative deals earlier this summer, but it appears Roberto De Zerbi is not fully done revamping his creative department with another signing or two likely to be on the horizon.
According to TEAMtalk, the Lilywhites have now switched their attention towards acquiring Como captain Lucas Da Cunha in an attempt to bolster their midfield. The Frenchman is valued at £25 million on Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2031.
Como are in contention for another top rack finish in the Serie A table, and have made a resounding start to the Champions League this season, beating Manchester United 4-0 last week in the league phase in the process.
Da Cunha has been crucial to their success lately and interest in the 25-year-old’s services from Tottenham comes as no surprise, with De Zerbi keen on adding creativity and flair in an engine room that otherwise has a major share of physically adept players.
Spurs not very likely to bring Da Cunha in
Given how they have gone from strength to strength in recent years, Lucas Da Cunha is expected to play a key role at Como in the immediate future and under Cesc Fabregas, it may only be a matter of time before the Italians start winning some silverware.
The same cannot be said about Tottenham Hotspur, who have not tasted much success in terms of trophies, and have also been very underwhelming over the last two Premier League seasons. A lack of sporting appeal may not compel Da Cunha to join them.
While the Lilywhites have won their last couple of games in the Premier League, it is still very much debatable if they can compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, or even potentially finish in the Champions League spots at the end of the season.
On the other hand, Como have a team capable of winning trophies in the near future and have also gone toe-to-toe against the world’s biggest clubs in the Champions League, so it would be a surprise if Lucas Da Cunha was to leave an exciting sporting project to join Tottenham Hotspur, especially in the very near future.
