TRANSFER NEWS: Arsenal Beating Liverpool In Race To Sign Chelsea Outcast
Liverpool and Arsenal are going head-to-head over Chelsea outcast Salomon Kalou, according to reports this weekend.
The Sunday Mirror claims the frustrated 26-year-old Ivory Coast striker is in the final year of his contract and looks increasingly unlikely to extend his stay, after failing to force his way into Andre Villas-Boas’ first team plans.
Chelsea are hoping to cash in on the versatile striker in January, as he will be allowed to leave in the summer for nothing. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer and is prepared to test the water with a £6million bid in January, however he may well face stiff competition fro Liverpool who are also monitoring his situation.
It is believed Kalou would prefer a move across the capital as opposed to a move North leaving Arsenal in the driving seat to snap him up. Wenger tried to buy him from Feyenoord in 2006 but lost out to Chelsea when they paid the Dutch club £9m.
