Spurs Trump Chelsea To Top Transfer Target?
Rumours are circulating today that Tottenham are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill, by offering a larger bid for the player
Rumours are circulating today that Tottenham are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
Recent reports suggested the defender was set for a move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea close to agreeing a £7m deal. However, several media outlets today are claiming that Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy are set to make a late move to scupper the deal, and are willing to offer an improved bid of £8m in order to land the England stopper.
Cahill was subject to intense transfer speculation in the summer after refusing to sign a contract extension at the Reebok. Arsenal and Tottenham both submitted offers for the 25-year-old but they fell short of Bolton’s £15m asking price. With Cahill’s contract set to expire in the summer, the Wanderers have now been forced to drop their price to around £7-£8m or risk losing him for nothing in 6 months time.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has made a new centre back his priority this January and Cahill is thought to be his No.1 target. But now it seems Tottenham are also keen to renew their interest and won’t be sitting back and letting their London rivals sign the player without a fight.
