3 Players Liverpool Should Sign To Become Title Contenders
Here is the list of 3 positions Liverpool need to strengthen, and the best solutions for these positions, in order for Liverpool to become serious title contenders
Liverpool have been fairly disappointing this season. After more than £100 million spent on new players this year, the club is lying sixth in the league table, three points from the much needed fourth place. But although it doesn’t seem so, Liverpool are not that far from being title contenders.
Striker – Lukas Podolski
Although Liverpool spent around £60 million on strikers last January, the club is in dire need for new striking talent. The team is creating lots of chances, but have big problems converting them into goals. With the current number of goals scored, it is likely that Kenny and Comolli will be looking for a striker in January. Lukas Podolski is the ideal man for the job.
The German star is having the best year of his career, scoring 14 league goals for his club Köln this season. Although he would be relatively expensive, with the price of around £20 million, he would be a perfect solution to Liverpool’s striking problems.
Creative Midfielder – Gaston Ramirez
Liverpool are creating chances, but not enough of them. According to statistics, Liverpool are only sixth in the league by number of chances created. Charlie Adam has started well, but his recent performances have been abysmal.
Ramirez would offer Liverpool a lot more attacking options, and with Gerrard coming to fitness and Liverpool searching for a new defensive midfielder, he would be the final part of a deadly three-man midfield which would guarantee lots of goals.
Defensive Midfielder – Fernando Reges
With Lucas injured, Liverpool need a defensive midfielder. Spearing is a name that people might mention to replace Lucas, but is he really good enough just now to replace a world class talent like Leiva? Fernando is and would do a great job.
The Porto man is a real beast, and would easily fill the gap left behind due to Lucas’ injury. The problem is: are Kenny and Comolli ready to pay around £15 million for Fernando when Lucas will be fit for next season? They should buy him in my opinion, Liverpool were in need for a defensive midfielder before Lucas got injured; this signing would solve our long-term problem area and he could play alongside Lucas when he returns.
If Liverpool manage to pull off these three signings, which would be at a combined cost of around £50 million, they would become real title contenders. Imagine a midfield three of Gerrard, Ramirez and Fernando/Lucas with Suarez, Podolski and Bellamy/Downing in attack, goals would come easily.
