Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Deal Denied – “We’ve Not Heard From Liverpool”
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has poured cold water on rumours linking Darren Bent with a move to Liverpool, saying they wont entertain any offers put forward
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has poured cold water on rumours linking Darren Bent with a move to Liverpool.
Several reports in recent days have linked Bent with a move away from the Midlands, and some even claiming a transfer to Liverpool was a “done deal”.
Villa paid Sunderland £24m for the England striker and were thought to want to recoup the majority of that fee, with McLeish looking to raise funds for his own squad rebuilding.
However, the Scot has denied any approach from Liverpool and claimed they wouldn’t want to encourage any offers for their main striker.
“We’ve not heard a thing from Liverpool. I’m aware of the speculation,” McLeish said
“But there has been no contact with this club and I think you’ve had three parties telling you that.
“But, even if there was contact, we would not entertain that (selling Bent).
“We wouldn’t want to entertain selling our top scorer of last season. He is a prolific marksman.”
