Van Persie Hints At Arsenal Stay After Declaring He’s A ‘True Gunner’
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has hinted he could sign a new contract in the summer after declaring his love for the club and claiming he’s a true gunner.
Afternoon Gooners. Some interesting words coming from star striker Robin van Persie today after the Sun quote him as hinting that he could sign a new contract in the summer after declaring his love for the club.
We all know by now that RVP’s contract will enter its final year this summer leaving the club in a precarious position, very similar to the situation we found ourselves in with Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy last summer.
Many pundits feel its only a matter of time before the Dutchman leaves the Emirates and jets off to join one of the big-two in Spain, but i really don’t think the situation is as clear cut as some suggest, and the quotes emanating today only reinforce my belief further.
Robin has been quoted as declaring his love for the club and claiming he’s a “true gooner”. Hardly the words of a man thinking of leaving any time soon. He also revealed that he and manager Arsene Wenger often discuss things but he will sit down with the “president” as well in the summer. Here’s what he said in the Sun newspaper:
“I have been there for eight years and I’m proud. At the end of the season I will it down with the trainer and the president. Then we make a cup of coffee all together.
“I am a true Gunner. I love this club and that’s no secret. We will soon talk about many things. I do quite often with the trainer anyway. Only later on is the president there.”
It’s obvious the guy simply loves the club and want’s to stay, but i think he just needs to make sure we’re going to be competitive on the pitch for the final years of his career before he commits his future. He’s previously stated his love for London and likes the fact his children are growing up here, so he just needs to make sure we’re heading in the right direction.
The only thing that could sway him is if we miss out on Champions League football, but even then i’m not convinced he’d definitely leave. Maybe i’m just being naive? But i really think he want’s to stay, and i believe he will.
