By Football Talk.
Tottenham Hotspur have been in the news again today with several transfer-related stories doing the rounds. We will bring you the latest news as they look set to miss out on two transfer targets this summer as Diego Forlan and Pedro Leon have both denied speculation they will leave Spain, and despite calls from many Spurs players, it seems the club are not willing to meet Joe Cole’s wage demands.
Forlan to remain at Madrid
Diego Forlan has ended speculation he may return to the premier league by insisting he will remain in Spain next year, according to the Mirror. Harry Redknapp has been keeping a close eye on Forlan who has been one of the stars of the World Cup, helping guide Uruguay to a semi-final place where they will meet Holland.
But the ex-Manchester United forward has said he will stay at Atletico Madrid next season.
“I am very happy in Madrid and I have three years left on my contract with Atletico. I will not go.”Now I want to have another season as good or better than the one just completed.”
Leon rejects Spurs talk
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is set to miss out on another transfer target after Spanish winger Pedro Leon has rejected talk he could be set for a move to the Premier League, according to the Sun. Tottenham have been keeping tabs on the 23-year-old after some impressive displays for his club Getafe, but the player is said to be keen to remain in Spain and would prefer a move to Real Madrid should he move on.
Spurs won’t meet Cole’s demands
Tottenham have joined Manchester United in refusing to meet Joe Cole’s £100,000pw wage demands, according to the Telegraph. The report claims the player is pricing himself out of a move to a premier league club with his huge demands. Cole left Chelsea after failing to agree a new deal, as the England winger asked to be put on level terms with the clubs top earners. But owner Roman Abramovich refused his request and now it seems other clubs are following suite. Tottenham remain favorites to sign Cole, but he will have to lower his wage demands to make the move to White Hart Lane.
