TRANSFER TALK: United linked with midfield ace
By Football Talk.
Several reports have emerged today linking Manchester United with a sensational £30m swoop for Inter Milan and Holland star Wesley Sneijder. The play maker has been one of the players of the World Cup so far, helping guide Holland to the semi finals where they meet Uruguay this evening. Sneijder only joined Inter last summer after an unhappy stint at Real Madrid, but under the management of Jose Mourinho he enjoyed the best season of his career so far winning the treble.
Now Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to splash some of the £80m he received from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sneijder has emerged as the one ‘quality’ addition he will make this summer, although Fergie insists he will not pay over the odds despite Sneijder’s form of late.
The Dutchman would be a long-term replacement for 35-year-old Paul Scholes and would add that attacking flair United lacked in midfield last term. Also a consideration for the United hierarchy is that at 26, Sneijder could potentially hold his resale value. Inter paid Madrid £20m a year ago and there is no doubt his stock has risen since so it would take a bid in the region of £30m for Milan to even consider letting Sneijder leave the San Siro.
