Liverpool vs Wigan: Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Liverpool welcome struggling Wigan to Anfield on Saturday looking to bounce back after losing 3-2 to QPR. Here’s team news, likely line-ups & predicted score
Liverpool welcome struggling Wigan to Anfield on Saturday looking to bounce back after Wednesday’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to QPR.
Kenny Dalglish looked on in horror as he witnessed his side throw away a 2-0 lead, with QPR scoring three goals inside the final 15 minutes to leave the Merseysiders hopes of a top-four finish in tatters.
Only a minor miracle would see Liverpool playing Champions League football again next season, but they must continue to believe and three points on Saturday are vital to maintain those slim hopes.
Team News
Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of defender Martin Kelly, who was forced off against QPR, but he’s expected to be passed fit to start.
Charlie Adam is also a doubt with a knee injury while Glen Johnson and Craig Bellamy remain on the sidelines. Daniel Agger is closing in on a comeback from a rib injury, but is still short for this weekend.
Kenny Dalglish is likely to start with Andy Carroll alongside Luis Suarez up front, while Jordan Henderson, Dirk Kuyt, Stewart Downing and Jay Spearing will all be vying for a start alongside Steven Gerrard in midfield.
Roberto Martinez will be without the services of striker Hugo Rodellega, who is struggling with a knee injury. It means Di Santo will continue alone up front for the Latics.
David Jones and Mike Pollitt are almost ready to return, but wont be considered for the Liverpool game.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Wigan come to Anfield boosted by a positive recent record against the Reds, which reads three draws and one win in their last four games. But Liverpool know victory is a must if they are to retain any hope of Champions League football next season, with Dalglish’s side currently 12 points off the pace.
I can see Liverpool having a relatively comfortable afternoon. Liverpool 3-0 Wigan.
