Liverpool
Hodgson Showing Early Signs of Transfer Nous
Written by Paul Downey.
The news this morning is that Luke Young’s proposed move from Aston Villa to Liverpool has fallen through, but this and Roy Hodgson’s other moves in the transfer market have shown he intends to completely revamp the Anfield outfit.
With the signings of Joe Cole and Danny Wilson in the bag, it appeared that Hodgson wanted experienced cover in the form of former England man Young who had been used sparingly by Villa last term.
With the departure of Yossi Benayoun, and deadwood such as Philip Degen and Fabio Aurelio either shown the door or already gone, Liverpool could have a very different look come the weekend of August 14th.
Javier Mascherano has told the boss he wants to join former Manager Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan, but it looks for now as if Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are staying put. That pairing more so than the Argentinian, have been the lynchpins for the Reds over the past two seasons, and losing them would certainly make other players consider if Liverpool was the right place for them to be plying their trade.
It seems the Anfield crowd can for now forget the big money names they were linked with during Benitez’s tenure such as David Villa and David Silva, this now seems territory for one club in the shape of moneybags Manchester City.
But what Hodgson can bring in, is hard working grafters and experienced pros, which could steady the ship and maybe in time bring the glory days back to Anfield.
