As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news. Today, Arsenal have missed out on a Dutch international.
Reported Arsenal target Gregory van der Wiel is on his way to Paris Saint Germain, according to Goal.com
The Holland full back has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks, with talkSPORT reporting recently that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was keen on adding the versatile defender to his squad this summer.
However, the 24-year-old has now confirmed he’s on his way to PSG, bringing to an end a seven year stay in Amsterdam.
“Paris Saint-Germain are a wonderful club with a lot of ambition. I’ve had a great time at Ajax, but the time has come to move on. I’ve won two Eredivisie titles, a KNVB Beker and have played in the Champions League. I need a new challenge,”
Van der Wiel is quoted as saying by Goal.com
Van der Wiel has entered the final year of his contract at Ajax so the Eredivisie champions have decided to cash in now instead of losing him for nothing next summer.
PSG are expected to pay just €6 million for the full back, which is a relative steal considering he is a full Dutch international.
As well as Arsenal, the likes of Newcastle, Roma and Inter have also been linked with the defender this summer but mega-rich PSG have won the race.
