Chelsea To Miss Out On £46m Falcao?
Chelsea could miss out on Radamel Falcao with Manchester City ready to match the Blues £46m move for the Atletico Madrid striker, according to the Daily Mail.
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Chelsea face stiff competition for the signature of Falcao.
Chelsea could miss out on Radamel Falcao with Manchester City ready to match the Blues £46m move for the Atletico Madrid striker, according to the Daily Mail.
The striker has become the hottest property in Europe after netting 12 goals in his first eight games for Madrid this season. His latest strike was a stunning last minute free-kick to see-off Real Sociedad on Sunday to move Atletico level with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table.
Falcao netted a hat-trick against Chelsea in the European Super Cup earlier this season and the Blues are ready to trigger the players release clause with a £46m bid as they look to add another striker to their ranks.
However, the European champions will face stiff competition for the 26-year-old’s signature after Manchester City’s chief scout Carlo Cancellieri revealed the Premiership champions are also tracking the striker.
Cancellieri was quizzed about City’s reported interest in Stevan Jovetic but he all-but ruled out a move for the Fiorentina forward, insisting it was Falcao that the club are interested in and he has already held talks with boss Roberto Mancini about signing the Columbian hitman.
‘He [Jovetic] is an interesting player, he has quality. But in attack City are already good, we’re happy with Tevez, Aguero and Balotelli,’
‘Moreover, I believe that our players are better than Jovetic. He is a very good player, but he is not one who could make a difference such as Falcao.
‘I spoke about him in recent days with Mancini. If we were to take a player in January, we should take Falcao. He is an important player, the only one who could make us take the leap.’
Cancellieri is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich remains confident he can lure Falcao to Stamford Bridge and will battle City all the way the prolific striker, despite the champions financial clout.
