TRANSFER TALK: Tottenham considering shock move
Written by David Moore-Crouch.
Tottenham could be lining up a shock move for ex Arsenal captain William Gallas. The 33 year old French defender is currently a free agent after he left the emirates earlier in the summer.
Spurs are currently struggling with defensive worries with Jonathan Woodgate still recovering from a groin injury and the long term fitness of Ledley King still remaining uncertain. Redknapp is said to be looking at the former Gunner as a quick fix as the clubs prepares for the start of the Premier League season.
The biggest stumbling block appears to be Gallas’ wage demands which are around £90,000 a week. This is well above the highest paid earners at Spurs, said to be around £65,000 week. The club appears unwilling to go above this. However it is believed that Gallas wants to remain in the capital where he has spend the last nine years with Chelsea and Arsenal and may take a pay cut to ensure this.
Gallas would offer the club some much needed experience as they prepare for their Champions League Play-Off with Swiss Club Young Boys. Spurs fans, however, could find it hard to welcome the Frenchman after his association with the clubs two biggest rivals.
