Although i hate to say it but watching through pre season and another horror by Manual Almunia against Liverpool i am tending to agree with The Merse on this one.
The current set of keepers at The Arsenal are simply not good enough for a whole campaign. When you look back at Arsenals recent title winners they all had very good keepers such as Bob Wilson, John Lukic, David Seamen and Jens Lehmann! Almunia is a second choice keeper at best and the other three are to young and experienced to do the job.
I do understand however that buying a top quality goalkeeper is not like buying a Mars Bar from your local shop as there are not that many around at the moment. But as luck would have it maybe the sun has decided to shine on Arsenal for once. Shay Given is almost certain to want out of Middle Eastlands after being snubbed for Joe Hart in Saturdays game at White Hart Lane. Hart put in a fantastic performance and basically claimed the #1 shirt at City.
Given who is now 34 years old has not won anything in his career and is desperate to get his hands on some silverware before his career ends. A move to Arsenal would be ideal for two of the three parties! The only sticking point would be his parent club Manchester City. Would they really sell to Arsenal? I am not sure but if Given wants this move then I’m sure he could force it through!
So come on Mr Wenger get Given and end the long wait for a trophy at The Emirates..
