Gomis Turns Down Move In Favour Of Lyon Stay

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Bafetimbi Gomis turned down the chance to leave Lyon.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claims reported Chelsea and Liverpool target Bafetimbi Gomis has turned down the chance to leave the club this month, according to Sky Sports News.

The report claims that Gomis has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this month with Chelsea, Liverpool and more recently Newcastle United understood to have shown an interest in the France international.

Aulas has revealed that offers have come in for the striker but stopped short of naming the interested parties, and claims that Gomis has rejected the chance to leave in favour of staying at the  Stade de Gerland.

“We had offers for Gomis, but he refused,” Aulas is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

The player himself was quizzed about his future and revealed he wants to see out the remainder of the season with Lyon and claims until the January transfer window closes, there will always be speculation.

“I want to finish the season here but the club also has their say, let’s wait and see. Until the window closes there will be speculation,” he told Sky Sports.

Chelsea have already signed striker Demba Ba from Newcastle this month while Liverpool have brought in Daniel Sturridge from the Blues, so I’m not convinced any bids submitted to Lyon would have been from the Premier League duo.

I’ve seen Gomis a few times this season and he’s been pretty impressive. He’s a powerful forward and knows where the goal is – scoring 11 goals in 19 games so far this season – so he could be an asset if he was to move to these shores but it seems any move for the player will have to wait until the summer.
