Spanish Giants Eye Chelsea Stopper
Real Madrid are eyeing an audacious move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech as the Spanish giants line-up potential replacements for the unsettled Iker Casillas
With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Real Madrid are linked with Petr Cech.
Real Madrid are eyeing an audacious move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech as the Spanish giants line-up potential replacements for the unsettled Iker Casillas, according to the Daily Star.
The report claims Madrid are on the market for a new keeper due to growing question marks over the long-term future of Casillas. Spains No.1 is understood to have fallen out with boss Jose Mourinho and has been sensationally relegated to the bench recently despite being named as the worlds best keeper for the second year running.
The Star claim there are growing fears at the Bernabue that Casillas will be forced out the door and the club are believed to be drawing up a list of potential replacements, with Chelsea’s Petr Cech understood to be a top target.
Cech signed a new four-year deal with the European champions last May and I would imagine it would take a sizeable offer to persuade the Blues to sell, but the Czech Republic international did hint he was open to another challenge when speaking last year:
“You never know, everything happens fast in football. You can sign a 10-year contract and then leave after three years.
“I’m 29 and believe there is still time for a possible change.”
Cech is quoted as saying in the Star
However, I wouldn’t be getting too worried if I was a Chelsea fan. It would be a huge surprise if A) Casillas does leave Madrid or B) they are able to sign Cech as a replacement.
Casillas has been with Real his entire career and is captain of the club. Even if his relationship with Mourinho has deteriorated, I could see the Madrid hierarchy sacking Jose before letting Casillas leave.

So I don’t see this transfer rumour coming to anything. Cech may leave Stamford Bridge eventually in search of a new challenge, but I’d be majorly surprised if it was to replace Casillas at Real Madrid.
