Arsenal Table Fresh Offer For David Villa
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is understood to have submitted an improved offer believed to be worth in the region of £10m-£11m for Barcelona striker David Villa
Transfer deadline day is finally upon us and, not surprisingly, it’s relatively quiet on the Arsenal news front. The one piece of major transfer news doing the rounds is that we’ve made another bid for David Villa with Goal.com one of several outlets who’re reporting we’ve tested Barcelona’s resolve with a bid in the region of £10m-£11m today.
Boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have publicly declared the deal as “dead”, but Goal.com suggest the club have privately been given encouragement to pursue a late deal with Villa understood to be extremely keen on moving to the Emirates in order to secure more first team opportunities.
The report claims Wenger has made a final push to try and persuade Barca to sell the 31-year-old by tabling an improved offer of between £10m-£11m, with the club’s transfer negotiator Dick law understood to still be in Spain to try and thrash out the deal.
Villa has struggled to regain his first team place in the Barca line-up since returning to fitness from a broken leg. He was an unused substitute for the Catalans 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the semi final of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night and has started just 7 league matches all season.

While I wouldn’t consider Goal as the most reliable of sources, there does seem to be a fair bit of ‘smoke’ around the one and rumours are growing fast. With just hours to go, it’s now or never for Arsenal to try and bring in some new faces and I fear the boss may face a nasty backlash from the fans if we end up empty handed when the window slams shut.
Reinforcements are vital if we’re to have a chance of securing a top-four finish and to be honest, while I’d love to see Villa join this month, a left-back or centre-back has become more of a priority in my eyes. Not long left Arsene, tick tock…..
