Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has reiterated his desire to return to the club in some capacity in the future and also took the time to defend boss Arsene Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.

The 35-year-old Frenchman became our record goal-scorer during his eight-year stint at the club between 1999 and 2007 and further enhanced his status with a successful short loan spell in 2012.

Henry has scored an incredible 228 goals in 378 games – as well as providing 98 assists – to cement himself in the Arsenal hall of fame forever and he’s admitted he would jump at the chance to come back to the club in some capacity when his contract ends with the New York Red Bulls in two years time.

‘All I know is that I will be involved in the game for sure and hopefully be involved with Arsenal because that is the heart talking there, that’s the team that I support. Forget about me as a player, that’s the team I support.

‘In any type or shape, if I can go back to the club I would love to do it, but it’s not up to me. That would be a desire, more a desire than something that can be officialised, I still have two years playing here and then I will see.

‘But I would definitely love to be back with Arsenal.’ Henry is quoted as saying by the Mail

There was talk of Henry returning for another loan spell last month but it never came to fruition so if Wenger didn’t want him this year it’s highly unlikely he’ll have him back in a playing capacity again in the future. But I’d love to see Henry come back as a coach. It’s important to keep the legends involved with the club and Thierry could pass on his years of experience to the players.

It could happen as he clearly gets on well with Arsene and has also taken the time to defend the boss after he came under increased criticism by fans and pundits following our worst start to a Premier League since he took charge back in 1996. He added:

‘When you don’t win people are always going to question your work, your legacy and what you did before. It is sad somehow but that is the way the game is. What are you going to do?’

‘For me, it is difficult to hear, difficult to see, but for me the boss will always be Arsene – always great for me and I know what he has done for the club,” Henry is quoted as saying by the Mail

It is hard to hear Wenger get criticised as we all like to think of him as the inspirational professor who lead us to an unbeaten Premier League title but while some of his criticism is unjustified, there are some things you just can’t defend against and as the boss, Arsene has to take responsibility. Anyway, that’s for another day.
