Chelsea Target Fellaini Edges Closer To Everton Exit Door

Chelsea have been alerted to the news that Marouane Fellaini pulled out of a signing sessions with Everton fans after being booed off during the Toffees 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Wigan on Saturday, according to the Metro.
The Belgian midfielder was expected to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photos at the Liverpool shopping centre on Monday after training but cancelled his appearance shortly before he was due to arrive. A statement on the clubs official website on Monday afternoon confirmed the news:
‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, this afternoon’s signing session with Marouane Fellaini at Everton Two has been postponed’, the statement on Evertonfc.com confirmed.
Fellaini also took to Twitter to apologise for the cancellation, but failed to give a reason for his no-show.
‘Sorry to the Everton fans, I cannot make the signing session this afternoon. Will do another one soon. Felly,’ he tweeted.
The 25-year-old put in one of his worst display’s in an Everton shirt during their 3-0 defeat to Wigan at Goodison Park on Saturday. He was hauled off in the 65th minute to a chorus of boos after a lackluster display and headed straight down the tunnel before being abused by some sections of the Goodison faithful as he left the stadium after the match.
The Metro claim this latest incident shows his time on Merseyside is drawing to a close and Chelsea are expected to come in with a big-money offer in the summer while the Telegraph also claim Fellaini will leave at the end of the current campaign and suggest that a Champions League club can active his £23m release clause this summer.

The former Standard Liege midfielder enjoyed an excellent start to the season and was once in the running for the Player of the Year, but his form his dipped dramatically in recent months to derail Everton’s push for a top-four finish and it seems he could be on the move at the end of the season.
