Arsenal & Man Utd Blow As Midfield Target Rules Out Move
Arsenal and Manchester United have received a blow after Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama ruled out leaving Park Head this summer, according to the Express.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Victor Wanyama wants to stay at Celtic.
Arsenal and Manchester United have received a blow after Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama ruled out leaving Park Head this summer, according to the Express.
The Kenyan international has been in superb form for the Glasgow giants since moving from Beerschot in 2011 and played a key role in Celtic’s Champions League run this season – getting himself on the scoresheet during a 2-1 victory over Barcelona last October – and was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award last week.
It seems his form hasn’t gone unnoticed south of the border with the Express claiming Arsenal and Manchester United have both sent scouts to watch the 21-yar-old in action on several occasions this season, with Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson understood to be weighing up summer bids.
Wanyama turned down Celtics latest contract offer last October leading to suggestions he could be on the move at the end of the season, with a big-money move to the Premier League being strongly touted.
However, the defensive midfielder has now pledged his loyalty to the Hoops, and despite reports linking him with the likes of Arsenal and United, he insists he’ll still be at Park Head next season.
“I’m happy at Celtic, I love it here. I’ll be here next season. I haven’t spoken to my agent because I’ve been concentrating on playing football.
“I haven’t thought about leaving so there’s been no need to speak to him.
“I feel I’m at the right club and I’m happy. It’s good to be linked with big clubs because it gives me a big boost to work harder and keep doing well.” Wanyama is quoted as saying by the Express.
Both Arsenal and United could do with a physical presence like Wanyama in the centre of their midfield but it seems he has no intention of leaving Celtic any time soon. Although, if Wenger or Fergie was to wave a big-money contract in front of his face, you wouldn’t be surprised if he changed his mind!
