United Set To Battle Chelsea For Highly-Rated England U-21 Defender
New Manchester United manager David Moyes looks set to rival Chelsea to the signature of highly-rated Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to reports.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United enter the chase for Luke Shaw.
New Manchester United manager David Moyes looks set to rival Chelsea to the signature of highly-rated Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mail.
Moyes isn’t due to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson until his Everton contract officials runs out on 1st July but it seems he’s already preparing to make changes to the Premier League champions squad with Shaw seemingly in his thoughts.
The Mail claims Moyes had the 17-year-old scouted extensively last season when he viewed him as a potential replacement for Leighton Baines should the full-back have joined United this summer, but with Baines now set to remain at Goodison Park, Moyes has identified Shaw as a potential long-term successor to Patrice Evra at Old Trafford.
The report suggests Chelsea have been the front-runners for the England Under-21 international after he admitted he was a boyhood Blues fan but with United now also in the hunt, Southampton are going to come under increasing pressure to keep hold of the talented left-back – who is yet to sign a professional deal at St Mary’s and won’t do so until July when he turns 18.
Shaw is also going to have a difficult decision to make over where his future lies. He’ll be guaranteed more first team football at Southampton but it’s not often the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United come calling, so does he takes the risk of missing out on a big-money move by staying with the Saints? It’s a tough one but he should thank himself lucky he’s got the choice!
