Transfer News: Chelsea Want Dutch Playmaker – Spurs Eye Argentinean Forward
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with a move for Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder and Tottenham eye Roma’s Argentinean forward Erik Lamela.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with a move for Wesley Sneijder and Tottenham eye Roma forward Erik Lamela.
Jose wants Sneijder
First up and the Mirror are reporting that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to bring Wesley Sneijder to Stamford Bridge this summer as he continues to put his stamp on the squad following his return two weeks ago.
A deal to sign Andre Schurrle is already in place and it seems Jose wants to make Sneijder his second major signing of the summer. The pair worked together at Inter Milan, winning the Champions League in 2010, before Mourinho joined Real Madrid while Sneijder made a surprise £6.5m move to Galatasaray in January this year.
It now seems the Portuguese coach wants to be reunited with the 29-year-old with an apparent source telling the Mirror that he has asked owner Roman Abramovich to bring the Dutchman to west London this summer.
“Mourinho has asked Abramovich to get him Sneijder.” a source told the Mirror
His best days may be behind him but there is little doubt Sneijder is still a hugely talented footballer and would add a lot of quality to the Chelsea squad if he was to make the move this summer. Let’s see how this one progresses….
Spurs eye Lamela
Next up and the Telegraph are reporting that Tottenham are weighing-up making a bid for Roma’s highly-rated forward Erik Lamela this summer. The Argentinean international has just come off the back of an impressive campaign in Italy that saw him score 15 goals in 33 appearances for Roma and it seems his form has caught the eye of Andre Villas-Boas.
The Telegraph suggest the impending arrival of Franco Baldini as Spurs’ new director of football has heightened the possibility of Lamela moving to White Hart Lane as the pair worked together at Roma, and AVB’s new right-hand man could now play a key role in luring him to north London.
Lamela is a versatile forward who can play on either flank or through the middle so would give AVB plenty of options in attack if he did make the move. However, the 21-year-old only joined Roma from River Plate in 2011 in a deal believed to be worth around £10m so Tottenham would have to ensure the Italians would make a hefty profit if they want to tempt them into a sale.
