Spurs Injury Update: Latest On Vertonghen, Sandro, Bale & More…

Tottenham take on South China FC in the Barclays Asia Trophy on Saturday and manager Andre Villas-Boas has given the clubs official website an injury update ahead of the game.
Spurs are playing for third place after losing 3-1 to Sunderland in the opening game in Hong Kong and Villas-Boas has given positive news on several first team players today.
The Portuguese coach confirmed that Jake Livermore is back in training along with midfielders Sandro and Lewis Holtby and while the trio are said to be closing in on full fitness, only Livermore is fit enough to feature this weekend.
The South China game will also come too soon for Gareth Bale with AVB confirming the attacker is still a little short of fitness and will once again miss out.
Defender Jan Vertonghen was stretchered from the field on Wednesday after landing awkwardly and scan has revealed that the Belgian international has injured his anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) on his left ankle and will be out of action for up to three weeks.
Villas-Boas told TottenhamHotspur.com:
“There are lots of improvements, bearing in mind we brought a squad with a few injuries.
“Jake Livermore has come back to training, Lewis Holtby and a couple of others have progressed and are almost there.
“Sandro is now training once again and Gareth Bale is also near to full training.
“Unfortunately, we won’t see any of them involved (against South China) apart from Jake, but this is good news compared to when we arrived.”
“Jan has damaged his ankle ligament, the ATFL and he’s most likely going to be out of training for two to three weeks.”
So positive injury news all-round for Tottenham and they will no doubt be relieved that Vertonghen could be back in time for the start of the season as it was feared he could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines when he was stretchered off on Wednesday night.
