Arsenal To Table £49m Suarez Bid As Striker Gets Set For Crunch Talks With Rodgers
Arsenal are ready to launch a £49m bid for Luis Suarez as the striker gets set to hold crunch talks with Brendan Rodgers this week, according to the Telegraph.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are preparing a final bid for Luis Suarez.
Arsenal are ready to launch a final £49m bid for Luis Suarez as the striker gets set to hold crunch talks with Brendan Rodgers this week, according to the Telegraph.
Having already seen two bids rejected this summer, it seems the Gunners haven’t given up hope of luring the unsettled Uruguayan to the Emirates Stadium – despite Liverpool’s insistence he’s not for sale at any price.
The Telegraph claim that Arsene Wenger is ready to test the Merseysiders resolve with a final offer which would reach the £49m mark including various add ons, but it remains to be seen whether this would be enough to persuade Liverpool to sell their star man to a top-four rival.
Suarez is due back in Liverpool later today after linking up with the Uruguay squad for a friendly in Japan and he’s expected to hold showdown talks with boss Brendan Rodgers before this weekends Premier League kick-off against Stoke City.
Rodgers has forced Suarez to train alone and has demanded an apology from the player for showing the club a lack of respect. However, the Independent claim the striker will refuse to back down as he feels he has nothing to apologise for and maintains that Rodgers and Liverpool have reneged on an agreement to let him leave for a club in the Champions League this summer.
The news comes after a day of confusion which saw reports on Wednesday morning claim Suarez had told reporters that he had decided to stay at Anfield after being swayed by the support the fans had shown him.
“For now, owing to the affection shown me by the people, I would be staying.” Suarez had supposedly told El Observador
Latin American journalist Martin Chaquero then appeared to back-up these claims, saying on his personal Twitter account that he had personally spoken to Suarez who had confirmed he was staying at Liverpool and could even sign a new contract.
‘Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision,’ Chaquero said.
‘Suarez see it as likely that he’ll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool.’
‘Sources close to Luis Suarez have confirmed his decision to stay at Liverpool.’
However, these quotes were quickly dismissed by the player shortly after he had helped Uruguay to a 4-2 win over Japan, with him telling Japanese TV station Kyodo News:
‘I didn’t say that, maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team,’ Suarez is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail
Rodgers is due to talk to the media on Thursday afternoon so it will be interesting to see what he has to say about the future of Suarez, but it’s likely he will simply confirm that the clubs stance has not changed and the player wont be sold this summer.
If that turns out to be the case, it will be a huge blow to Arsenal as boss Arsene Wenger is yet to make any serious movements in the transfer market and it seems his hopes were firmly pinned on landing Suarez.
