Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Chelsea are ready to offer John Terry a new deal.
Chelsea are ready to perform a U-turn and offer captain John Terry a new contract amid reports he could be set for a move abroad this summer, according to the Mirror.
Terry will be 33 in December and with his current contract set to expire at the end of this season, there were reports he could be set to move to either the Middle East or the US with Chelsea seemingly unwilling to open talks over an extension.
However, the Mirror claim that officials at the club are now ready to perform a U-turn and will offer the defender a new deal before the New Year.
If no new contract is agreed before January 1st, Terry will be free to speak with foreign clubs and discuss a potentially lucrative move to the Middle East, but the newspaper claims the centre-back is desperate to stay in West London and is determined to earn a new deal.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho admitted on Saturday that Terry would get his new contract as long as he continued to prove himself on the pitch, with his comments coming after his skipper had scored the equaliser against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Terry has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers so far this season and remains a huge fan favourite having spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge, so it would be a huge surprise if he was to leave on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.
