Tottenham Hotspur take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon looking to keep pace with the early pace-setters.
Spurs head into the weekend’s action sitting sixth in the Premier League after a shock 3-0 defeat to West Ham last time out so the north Londoners will be hoping to get back on track on Sunday.
Ahead of the game boss Andre Villas-Boas has given TottenhamHotspur.com a team news and injury update with the latest on the fitness of Aaron Lennon, Younes Kaboul, Danny Rose and Etienne Capoue.
The only one of the quartet who could be in contention to face Villa is Kaboul with Villas-Boas confirming a late decision will be made over the defender after he recovered from a thigh injury.
There is also positive news on Capoue – who hasn’t featured since injuring his ankle against Arsenal on September 1st – with the midfielder due to return to full training next week, while left-back Rose is already back running and could be back in the squad next weekend.
Lennon’s season has been dogged by injury but the club have been building up his fitness over the past two weeks and the winger is expected to make a comeback ‘soon’.
Spurs had 12 players away on senior international duty but no serious injuries have been reported. Here’s what Villas-Boas told the clubs official website:
“They had tiring trips, as always, but it’s good that the internationals played on Tuesday, as it gives us more time to prepare for the game,”
“Most of the lads came back okay, heavy legs, but generally no big problems and we’re happy to have them back (at) 100 per cent.”
“Etienne is due to join the team next week. Younes could be ready, we have to make a decision on him.
“Danny Rose has made substantial progress, he’s now running and is probably one week away.
“We’ve used these two weeks to build Aaron’s fitness. We know what he can offer us, he’s a great, great player. He won’t be in contention (this week), but expect to see him back soon.”
