Agent Of Colombian Striker Holds Talks With Chelsea Over Potential £30m Move
The agent of Porto striker Jackson Martinez has held talks with Chelsea in London this week over a potential £30million move to Stamford Bridge in January.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea have held talks with the agent of Jackson Martinez.
The agent of Porto striker Jackson Martinez has held talks with Chelsea in London this week over a potential £30m move to Stamford Bridge in January, according to the Mirror.
Martinez has become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe since making the move to Porto from Mexican side Jaguares in 2012, scoring 34 goals in 43 appearances to help the club lift the Portuguese title last season, while he’s already got 10 in 15 games so far this campaign.
The Mirror claim the 27-year-old’s agent, Henrique Pompeo, flew into London earlier this week and held talks with Roman Abramovich’s right-hand-man, Marina Granovskaia, about a £30m switch to west London.
The newspaper suggests Porto are ready to cash in on the player and may sell in January if they fail to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League – which looks likely as they need to win away at group leaders Atletico Madrid in the final group game in order to make the last 16.
Martinez hinted earlier this month that he’s keen to make the step up to a big club but admitted he can only leave when Porto agree to sell:
“The years are passing and one day I hope to make a good transfer. It clearly depends on Porto, a club that sells its players so well. Leaving or staying depends on Porto but I will only go if there is something concrete.” Martinez is quoted as saying by talkSPORT
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be in the market for a top quality striker with his current crop of front men all struggling this season. Fernando Torres was showing signs of getting back to his best before being sidelined by a knee injury, Samuel Eto’o has struggled to make a real impact since joining the club in the summer and was stretchered off against Basel on Tuesday, while Demba Ba has fallen out-of-favour.
Martinez would certainly add a deadly goal threat to the Blues team if he was to make the move to Stamford Bridge this winter, and although he’d be cup-tied in Europe, he would be available to help with the clubs Premier League title push.
The report states that the Colombian has a £35m buy-out clause in his contract but Chelsea are believed to be hopeful of striking a deal at nearer £30m.
