Moyes To Submit Big-Money Double Bid After Being Handed £200m ‘Warchest’
David Moyes is ready to continue his spending spree by making big-money bids for Yohan Cabaye and Luke Shaw this week after being handed up to £200m to spend
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd’s spending spree is set to continue.
David Moyes is ready to continue his spending spree by making big-money bids for Yohan Cabaye and Luke Shaw this week after being handed up to £200m to spend, while he also hopes to secure the future of Wayne Rooney, according to the Mirror.
United completed the sensational purchase of Juan Mata from Chelsea on Saturday night and it seems the Spaniard could be one of several new additions at Old Trafford this month.
The Mirror claim that Moyes has up to £200m available to strengthen his squad with and after spending £37m of his ‘warchest’ on Mata, he will now look to bring in two further additions by tabling £20m+ bids for Luke Shaw and Yohan Cabaye this coming week.
Shaw has been a revelation at Southampton since breaking into their first team last season and is looked upon as a potential long-term replacement for Patrice Evra – who’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Central midfield is an area many feel United also need to strengthen and Cabaye has been Newcastle’s stand-out player this season. The champions will face stiff competition for his signature though with reports today claiming PSG are also interested and have just had a £14m bid rejected.
David Moyes has endured a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but the signing of Mata is sure to give his squad a huge lift and the newspaper suggests he’s hoping the addition of the 25-year-old will be enough to persuade Wayne Rooney to commit his long-term future to the club and sign a new £300,00-a-week deal four-year deal.
An apparent source told the paper:
“Signing Juan Mata is a major step forward – but it is also a signal of intent for the future. There is now an acceptance at the club that the squad needs a major overhaul and money will be made available for David Moyes to do just that.
“Securing the future of Wayne Rooney is an important part of the plan and proves that we will push the boundaries in terms of wages for the right player.”
The newspaper also claims the rebuilding at United will step up a gear in the summer with Moyes instructing his scouts to monitor a number of high caliber players over the coming months, with the likes of Diego Costa, Edinson Cavani, Koke, Paul Pogba, Eliaquim Mangala, Ilkay Gunfongen, Marco Reus and Toni Kroos all on his radar.
It’s certainly been a difficult few months at Old Trafford but it seems United chiefs are ready to put their money on the line to get the club back to the top and Moyes looks to have some ambitious plans for the summer.
But he has more immediate issues that need addressing, such as trying to qualify for the Champions League, and his hopes of securing a top-four finish would be given a major boost if he could manage to land Shaw and Cabaye before the window slams shut on Friday night.
