Man Utd Team News: Latest On RVP & Rooney + Mata Trains With New Team Mates
Man Utd have been handed a major injury boost with the news that Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini all took part in full training on Monday.
Manchester United have been handed a major injury boost with the news that Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini all took part in full training on Monday.
The trio were put through their paces ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash with Cardiff City at Old Trafford while new record signing Juan Mata also trained with his new team mates for the first time since completing his move from Chelsea.
Rooney has been missing for almost four weeks after suffering an adductor injury to his groin during the clubs 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur back on January 1st and was sent away for a weeks warm weather training recently to try and speed up his recovery.
Fellow striker van Persie has been out for even longer, with the Dutchman not featuring since injuring his thigh while taking a corner during United’s 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk way back on the 10th December.
The strike duo have been sorely missed with United struggling to cope without their presence in attack in recent weeks, so it will come as a huge boost for boss David Moyes to have them edging their way back to fitness.
It remains to be seen whether Moyes will recall them to the starting line-up straight away, or have them in reserve on the bench. The United boss will also have to make a decision over whether to start Mata as the 25-year-old has only had one training session with his new club.
Another player who’s been on the sidelines is Fellaini with the midfielder sidelined with back and wrist injuries and hasn’t featured since the 1-0 loss to Everton on the 4th of December. However, he too is back in full training and could now be in contention to take on Cardiff tomorrow.
The return of key men combined with the arrival of Mata is a welcome boost to Moyes as he looks to get United’s season back on track following a difficult few months. The champions currently sit seventh in the table, 14 points off leaders Arsenal and six off fourth-placed Liverpool, so they’ll be hoping to cut that deficit tomorrow.
