Tottenham Hotspur entertain Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score.
Tottenham Hotspur entertain Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon looking to get back to winning ways after a difficult few weeks.
Spurs haven’t won since the start of March and have suffered damaging defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal in recent games which have severely dented their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
Tim Sherwood’s men were also knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night 5-3 on aggregate to Benfica following a 2-2 draw in the second leg in Portugal. so they will be keen to get back to winning ways tomorrow.
The north Londoners dropped to sixth after Everton’s win over Swansea on Saturday but they can reclaim fifth with a win and move to within six points of fourth-placed Arsenal after the Gunners were thrashed 6-0 by Chelsea.
However, they will face a Southampton side who come into the game in good form having beaten both Crystal Palace and Norwich in recent weeks, and Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to climb back above Newcastle into eighth place.
Team News
Spurs are expected to welcome back Emmanuel Adebayor, Mousa Dembele and Younes Kaboul after the trio missed Thursday’s draw against Benfica.
Jan Vertonghen is also available again having been suspended in midweek but Michael Dawson, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue, Erik Lamela, Paulinho and Kyle Walker all remain out through injury.
Hugo Lloris is expected to recover from a knock that saw him miss the trip to Portugal, so Brad Friedel is in-line to drop back to the bench.
Southampton will give late fitness tests to Morgan Schneiderlin and Gaston Ramirez but the duo are expected to recover from knocks to start tomorrow.
Victor Wanyama and Jack Cork remain sidelined and could be joined by Guly do Prado, who’s struggling with a muscle injury.
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Emmanuel Adebayor: The Togolese striker has been hit and miss this season but when he’s on form he’s almost unplayable. Spurs will be looking to him to spearhead their attack and cause the Saints defence some problems.
Predicted Score
Spurs 2-1 Southampton: Tottenham were unfortunate to lose to Arsenal last Sunday and put in a valiant display in midweek, so they should be more confident heading into this one and we can see the home side edging it.
