Man Utd Made To Wait As Star Puts £30m Old Trafford Move On Hold
Southampton defender Luke Shaw has put his proposed £30m move to Manchester United on hold so he can concentrate on the upcoming World Cup finals with England
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Luke Shaw has put his move to Man Utd on hold.
Southampton defender Luke Shaw has put his proposed £30m move to Manchester United on hold so he can concentrate on the upcoming World Cup finals with England, according to the Daily Mail.
The 18-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and reports have suggested that a deal worth around £30m was virtually done and new United boss Louis van Gaal was set to make the youngster his first signing since being named as David Moyes permanent successor.
However, it appears van Gaal may have to wait a little longer to start spending that reported £200m ‘warchest’ he’s sitting on, as the Daily Mail are claiming today that Shaw has put the proposed move to United on hold so he can concentrate on the upcoming World Cup.
The newspaper suggests that Shaw is still keen on moving to the Red Devils and will complete the deal once England’s participation in Brazil is over, but the teenager has made the very mature decision to pull out of any transfer talks until after the tournament.
The news comes after the Southampton youngster told reporters this week that he was focussing on England and not his own club future. When asked about a possible move, he said:
‘It is something that is not even on my mind.
‘Transfer talk is completely gone – I am here to focus on England and England only.’ Shaw is quoted as saying by the Mail
Shaw is currently over in Portugal with the rest of the England squad preparing for the World Cup which kicks off in under three weeks, and the left-back admitted he was surprised to have been picked by Roy Hodgson ahead of veteran Ashley Cole:
‘I was very surprised. With Ashley Cole not playing that many games, I thought I might have a chance.
‘But obviously he played in the last three games of the season and he played incredibly well so that made me think that maybe it might not be my turn.
‘Obviously, I saw that I was announced in the squad and it was the best feeling in the world. I remember when I was sitting there with my family and friends and we were just all so proud that I am still only 18 and going to a World Cup.
‘There’s no pressure – I don’t really feel pressure. I just focus on my own game. I have come here to help the England team and I will do everything I can.
‘I feel ready if Leighton does pick up an injury then I will be 100 per cent ready and I don’t think Roy would have picked me if he didn’t think that.’ Shaw is quoted as saying by the Mail
He certainly sounds like he’s got his head screwed on and you have to admire him if he has put his proposed move to Man Utd on hold to concentrate on the World Cup. This is potentially the biggest move of his life and it must be exciting for him, so to put that to the back of your mind for a month or so can’t be easy.
United are almost certainly going to need another left-back this summer with Patrice Evra odds-on to leave when his contract expires, and Shaw would be a superb signing. The youngster could make the left-back spot his own for 10-years or more and has the potential to be one of the best full-backs of his generation.

However, it looks like United fans will have to be patient if they want to see him holding a United shirt and pray he doesn’t pick up any serious injury over in Brazil that could jeopardise his proposed switch to Old Trafford.
