Man Utd To Complete €36m Signing Today As Midfielder Heads For Medical
Man Utd are poised to complete their first signing of the summer with the club set to wrap up the €36m purchase of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are set to complete the signing of Ander Herrera.
Manchester United are poised to complete their first major signing of the summer with the club set to wrap up the €36m purchase of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera on Tuesday, according to reports today.
Herrera was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and saw a £24m bid turned down but they eventually pulled out of the race after then boss David Moyes refused to meet the 24-year-old’s buy-out fee.
United continued to monitor the Spaniard’s performances throughout the season and it appears new manager Louis van Gaal has given the go-ahead for the club to renew their interest.
The Daily Mail are reporting that with the players buy-out clause set to increase to €40m (£32m) at the end of the month, United have now agreed to pay the players current €36m (£28.4m) buy-out clause and have offered Herrera a four-year contract worth £50,000-a-week during formal talks in London.
The newspaper suggests that Herrera is now due to head up to Manchester where he will undergo a medical with the club hopeful of announcing the signing later on Tuesday if all goes to plan. To add further weight to this story, the BBC are also now reporting that Herrera is set to move to Old Trafford.
Herrera will be United’s first major signing of the summer and the first piece of business by new boss van Gaal, who will no doubt have been heavily involved in the decision-making despite the fact he’s not due to officially take over at Old Trafford until after he’s fulfilled his commitments with Holland at the World Cup.

Midfield was certainly an area van Gaal was expected to strengthen as it was an area for concern all last season with Marouane Fellaini struggling to live-up to his big price-tag following his move from Everton, while Tom Cleverley came under fire for his inconsistent displays at the heart of United’s midfield.
Therefore, the addition of an exciting talent like Herrera will no doubt we welcomed with open arms by the United faithful, who are desperate for the club to get back on track following a disastrous season last year.
