Man Utd Could Sign German Ace This Week After ‘Agreeing €20m Fee’
Manchester United could wrap up a deal to sign Mats Hummels this week after agreeing a €20m fee for the defender with Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Mats Hummels.
Manchester United could wrap up a deal to sign Mats Hummels this week after agreeing a €20m fee for the defender with Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for a world class central defender after seeing both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leave the club this summer and Hummels has been widely tipped to be his first choice target.
The Dutchman has made no secret of his admiration for the 25-year-old and it looks as though he could be set to pull off a sensation coup with the Express citing reports coming out of Spain that claim the Red Devils have now agreed a deal worth €20m (£16m) with Dortmund.
The newspaper suggests that with an agreement now in place, a deal could be pushed through this week and Dortmund have paved the way for Hummels’ exit after tying up a deal for Mathias Ginter over the weekend.
The defender has also been on the radar of Barcelona this summer, hence the media interest from Spain, but it appears United have now stolen a march on the La Liga giants and are in the driving seat to lure one of the best defenders in Europe to Old Trafford.
Hummels has just enjoyed an excellent World Cup where he played a key role in helping the Germans go all the way in Brazil, while he’s also been a rock at the back for Dortmund over the past three years, so he’d be an excellent signing for United if they do manage to pull it off.
It remains to be seen how Barcelona will respond to the news that United have supposedly agreed a fee for the player, but you wouldn’t be surprised if the Catalans now stepped up their interest as Luis Enrique looks to bring in a replacement for Carles Puyol this summer.

So although reports in Spain claim a deal for Hummels to join United is now close, I think there is still a long way to go before his future is resolved and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few more twists and turns yet.
