Man Utd Boss Louis van Gaal Handed Quadruple Injury Boost
Louis van Gaal has been handed some positive injury news with Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones and Michael Carrick all closing in on returns.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has finally been handed some positive injury news with Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones and Michael Carrick all closing in on returns to fitness, according to reports.
Fellaini has been on the sidelines for the last six weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage in training shortly after their opening day of the season defeat to Swansea City.
The Belgian international was initially due back in September but his recovery has taken longer than expected. However, the Daily Mail claim that the 26-year-old has resumed full training this week and while he’s not likely to be involved against Everton on Sunday, he will be in contention after the international break.
There is also some good news concerning Herrera. The Spanish international suffered a cracked rib against West Ham last weekend and was initially ruled out for around a month.
However, the Mail suggest that the midfielder has spurned United’s offer of two weeks off over the international break as he plans to work hard on his fitness and is determined to be back playing again when the club travel to West Brom on the 20th October.
In a further boost the newspaper claims that Michael Carrick and Phil Jones have both returned to light training this week as they step up their recoveries.
Carrick is yet to play this season after needing ankle surgery back in July while Jones picked up a hamstring problem while playing for England three weeks ago.
It appears the pair are now closing in on comebacks and although this weekend will come too soon for the duo, they could also be back in contention after the upcoming international break.
It will be a major boost to van Gaal to have these four players available again as the Dutchman has been severely hindered by injury problems during the opening months of his reign at Old Trafford.
United have had up to ten first team squad players out in recent weeks so it’s no surprise that their form has been disappointing, but it looks like the injury nightmare is almost over and van Gaal will have far more options for the trip to West Brom in two weeks time.
