Man Utd Transfer News: van Gaal Linked With Audacious €110m Attacker Bid
Man Utd are eyeing-up an audacious €110m (£88m) bid for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale and will look to try and lure the Welshman back to England next summer
With the January transfer window fast approaching managers are formalising their plans to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Gareth Bale.
Manchester United are eyeing-up an audacious €110m (£88m) bid for Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale and will look to try and lure the Welshman back to England next summer, according to reports.
United were strongly linked with a move for Bale when he left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013 before he eventually snubbed a move to Old Trafford in favour of a switch to Spain.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season in La Liga as his 22 goals in 44 games helped Madrid land their 10th European cup as well as push Atletico Madrid all the way in the title race.
However, reports suggest that the Welsh international is not viewed as an essential part of Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven over the long-term and with Madrid understood to be closing in on the signing of Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund next summer, it could pave the way for Bale’s departure.
Obviously there wouldn’t be any shortage of takers if Bale came on the market as he’s one of the best attackers in the world and it seems that Man Utd are ready to renew their interest as the Express claim that Louis van Gaal is eyeing a world record €110m (£88m) bid for the former Spurs star and will attempt to lure him back to the Premier League next summer.
It would certainly be a sensational coup if United could pull it off and the Red Devils have the financial muscle to be able to afford such a move, but much will depend on whether Madrid are able to close out a deal for Reus.
If the Champions League holders can secure the Germans signature, then it would certainly open the door for Bale to leave and Madrid have shown in the recent past with the sale of Angel Di Maria that they aren’t afraid to cash-in on their best players.
Any potential deal is still someway off though, and the Express suggest that van Gaal has lined-up Arjen Robben as a back-up option with the Dutchman thought to be available at around £30m next summer.

The priority remains Bale due to his age, but Robben would be an excellent addition if United don’t manage to lure the Welshman away from the Bernabeu.
