Chelsea and Man Utd have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Bastian Schweinsteiger after the midfielder admitted he’s in no hurry to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich, according to reports.
Schweinsteiger has been on the books at Bayern since he was 14 and came through the youth ranks before going on to make almost 500 appearances for the club after breaking into the first team in 2004.
He’s been a permanent fixture in the starting eleven ever since and has led the German giants to a whole host of honours including 7 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2013.
As one of the best all-round central midfielders in world football, understandably Schweinsteiger has attracted interest with Chelsea and particularly Manchester United strongly linked with a move for the player last summer.
The 30-year-old decided to reject all offers and remain at the Allianz Arena but his future has once again come under scrutiny after the German international told reporters that he’s in no rush to commit himself to Bayern any time soon.
Schweinsteiger’s current contract has just 18 months left to run and Pep Guardiola is desperate to tie him down to an extension. However, it appears he may have to wait as the player has confirmed he wants to concentrate on his football and not discuss a new deal just yet.
“I am in no hurry to renew. It’s not something that bothers me because I have a year before it expires.
“The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow.” Schweinsteiger is quoted as saying by the Express
The Express claims that Chelsea and Man Utd have now been put on ‘red alert’ following these comments with both clubs supposedly ready to offer Schweinsteiger a fresh start in England.
Louis van Gaal has previously worked with the midfielder during his time at Bayern and it’s believed the United boss would love to link-up with him again at Old Trafford as he continues to re-shape his squad following his appointment last summer.

However, it appears United would face stiff competition as the newspaper also suggests that Jose Mourinho is keen on Schweinsteiger as he looks to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.
It remains to be seen what Schweinsteiger will do or whether he’d even want to come to the Premier League if he does leave Bayern next summer, but he’d be an excellent addition for either Chelsea or United if they could somehow pull it off.
