Revealed: The 3 Players van Gaal Wants To Sign As Part Of £150m Spending Spree
Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal has been given the go-ahead to splash the cash after being given another £150m warchest. Here are his three key targets…
With the January transfer now open for business, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd get ready to splash some serious cash once again….
Louis van Gaal has been given the go-ahead to spend another £150m in order to ensure Manchester United finish in the top four this season, according to reports.
United dropped to fourth in the Premier League table – just one point above Arsenal – after last weeks loss to Southampton and it seems the United chiefs are keen to avoid missing out on Champions League qualification for the second year running.
The Mirror are reporting that van Gaal met with chief executive Ed Woodward and other members of the United hierarchy on Friday to discuss their transfer plans and was told he has up to £150m available to spend on new talent.
The club would prefer to do their business in the summer when it would be easier to land big names, but the financial muscle available to van Gaal means he could try and pull off a big-money deal in January and it looks as though he has some exciting targets.
The Dutchman has had to endure crippling injuries at the back this season so understandably strengthening the defence is a priority and the Mirror claim that Mats Hummels is top of United’s hit list.
It’s understood the Red Devils are ready to try and lure the 26-year-old to Old Trafford and even though it would take an offer of at least £40m to persuade Borussia Dortmund to cash-in, United are ready to break the bank if it means landing their key target this month.
The Mirror suggest that van Gaal also wants to bring in another right-back with Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne now their preferred option ahead of Seamus Coleman, but it may be difficult to land either player mid-season, so this is a position that may need to wait until the summer.
The final player believed to be on van Gaal’s radar is long-term target Kevin Strootman but United were warned by Roma earlier this week that it would take a ‘huge’ offer to tempt them into selling the midfielder this month.
So it looks like van Gaal wants to add a centre-back, right-back and a central midfielder to his squad with Hats Hummels, Nathaniel Clyne and Kevin Strootman his top targets.
I’m sure United fans would be delighted if they could bring those three to Old Trafford, even if it meant waiting until the summer to do-so. With Southampton currently sitting third in the table, I think it would be extremely unlikely Southampton would sell Clyne, and Strootman is also going to be tough to land this month.

Hummels could perhaps be the easiest to buy in January as Dortmund are in disarray with Jurgen Klopps men currently sitting in the bottom three, so there’s arguably never been a better time to try and lure the German international away from the Westfalonstadion.
We’ll have to wait and see whether United are able to sign any of these targets this month but it certainly sounds like United are getting ready to flex their financial muscle once again either in January or in the summer.
What do you think? Who would you like to see van Gaal go for?
