Arsene Wenger Praises Brazilian

By on November 3, 2011

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has leapt to the defence of summer signing Andre Santos, and claims he is happy with the Brazilians progress.

The attacking left-back is starting to settle down after his £6m move from Galatasaray in the summer, and has been playing far more than expected due to an injury picked up by Keiran Gibbs.

Despite his ability going forward, displayed with a vital goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week, the full back has been criticised for his defensive attributes, something the Frenchman defends:

“I am happy when he has the ball. I feel personally he is much better defensively than many people think.

“He is getting stronger in every game. He is a very intelligent boy who learns very quickly and obviously he has to adapt to the pace of the English game. That is not easy, to play game after game,” said Wenger.

Andre Santos is a mystery. He is the worst defender I have seen but a good attacker. Against Marseille Mikel Arteta was doing the left back job because of Santos’s poor defensive skills. However, in the opposition’s half Santos seemed to do quite well.

    @ Gunner 4 ever:-
Are you serious? Santos is the worst defender you’ve seen? There are a lot worse than him, we even have one on the books at Arsenal and his name is Squillaci…..

Santos is good, no doubt, come interbreak and we send him to Brazil to woo Neimar to arsenal, then send Verm to belgium to woo Hazard, is this possible?

Santos will become one of AFC’s great defender-attackers soon.
