Javier Mascherano is edging closer to his Anfield exit after being left out of the Liverpool squad to face Manchester City tonight. Sky Sports News are reporting that Barcelona have made a £12m bid for the midfielder while the Guardian claims that a £12.2m offer also includes former Arsenal player Alexander Hleb and defender Martin Caceres.

Liverpool are understood to have rejected the bid as they are looking for £24.4m up front with no player exchanges in the deal. The Guardian are also reporting that Mascherano has refused to play tonight, basically going on strike, which should all but end his days on Merseyside.

He has got a contract so if he refuses to play he can be sued for whatever the club perceive his value is.

Drop him into the reserves and forget about him until he realises how much he owes Liverpool. He should know all about playing in the reserves from his West Ham days. There’s no reason why we should accept anything less than £25M with no cast-off players included.

Not the reserves. That’ll just keep others from playing. If he can’t play, he can’t train. Ban him for training, and keep him until summer or until any1 wants to pay what we demand. We don’t negotiate with terrorists!

I actually see that as an excellent offer Caceres and Hleb are both versatile and add something to the side.
That with 12 mill is a better deal than 25 mill straight out but Roy wants crap players.

    Hey Liverpudlians

Arsenal fan here… Sorry to intrude on you’re party….

It might not be the deal you want, and I know nothing about this defender, but Hleb is class. I’m imagining him, Cole and cheeky G running at defences. That’d be a terrific attacking force playing off Torres. Would that deal (with more cash maybe) be so bad?

Well he’s 29, has career figures of a goal every 13 games, one assist every 5 games, so worth perhaps 3 or 4 million, plus Caceres, an injury prone right back (we really need a left back) currrently out on loan due to being Barca’s 4th choice, so worth another 2-3 million. The offer for Mascherano including those 2 is worth £19M at best, a long way short of Mascherano’s worth.
