Man Utd & Chelsea Battling To Sign Brazilian International

Chelsea and Manchester United are battling-it-out to sign Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian centre-back Miranda this summer, according to the Telegraph.

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd and Chelsea battling for Atletico Madrid’s Miranda….

Chelsea and Manchester United are battling-it-out to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Miranda this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Miranda has been a mainstay in the Atletico defence in recent years and has forged a rock-solid partnership alongside Diego Godin – which was the foundation of their La Liga triumph in 2013/14.

However, the 30-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract next month and so far no agreement has been reached with Atletico over an extension, so the Spaniard’s are expected to cash-in this summer to prevent losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

It seems the Brazilian international could now be heading for the Premier League as the Telegraph claim that Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head over Miranda’s signature this summer.

The newspaper suggests that Atletico have already offered Chelsea the chance to sign Toby Alderweireld – as we reported earlier – but apparently Jose Mourinho has made it clear his preferred option would be to sign Miranda.

The Blues boss is on the look out for defensive reinforcements with an experienced centre-back required to help ease the load on 34-year-old skipper John Terry next season, and Miranda would represent a relatively inexpensive option due to his contract situation.

The defender reportedly came close to joining Man Utd last summer before Atletico’s £22m asking price derailed any potential deal, but it seems the Red Devils are now ready to renew their interest with the centre-back likely to be available for much less this time around.

It remains to be seen what Atletico’s asking price will be this summer but the Telegraph claim that Miranda has already held talks with the club and told team-mates he could be on the move over the coming weeks, and a move to England could be on the cards.

It will be interesting to see where Miranda ends up if he does decide to come to the Premier League and Atletico’s interest in Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis could prove vital in any negotiations as a potential swap deal could suit all parties.

However, Louis van Gaal is also in the market for a top class central defender and you’d think United would be able to offer Miranda more regular first team football compared to Chelsea – where he’d have to play second-fiddle with JT and Gary Cahill – so they may feel quietly confident of winning the race for the Brazilian international’s signature.
