Arsenal & Man Utd Handed Boost As 29-Goal Striker Tells Club He Wants Move
Arsenal and Man Utd have been handed a boost as Gonzalo Higuain has told Napoli he wants to leave the club this summer in search of Champions League football
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Gonzalo Higuain tells Napoli he wants out….
Arsenal and Manchester United have been handed a major boost as Gonzalo Higuain has told Napoli he wants to leave the club this summer in search of Champions League football, according to the Daily Star.
Higuain joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 and after an impressive debut season in Italy he continued his excellent form in front of goal last year with 29 goals in all competitions for Rafa Benitez’ side.
The Argentinean international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months with Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport claiming that Arsenal offered Higuain a four-year deal worth around £4m-per-season after failing with a £29m bid.
Further reports by the Metro suggested that Manchester United had also joined the chase for the 27-year-old’s signature with Louis van Gaal understood to be keen on luring the striker to Old Trafford this summer.
Napoli responded to the speculation by insisting Higuain was going nowhere with president Aurelio De Laurentiis quoted by Football Italia as saying that the striker would only be sold if a ‘madman’ meets his buy-out clause – which is reportedly set at over £70m.
However, it seems Higuain is ready to try and force his way out of Naples as the Daily Star claim that the hitman has now told Napoli that he wants to leave the club in order to play Champions League football after they missed out following their fourth-place finish in Serie A.
If true, this news is sure to have alerted the likes of Arsenal and United and Higuain would be a sensational signing if either club was able to pull off what would be a major coup this summer.
The Gunners improved a lot during the second half of last season but I still feel they need a world class finisher to be genuine title challengers and Higuain could be the man to fire Arsene Wenger’s men to their first Premier League trophy since 2004.

United could also do with a top class goalscorer after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis and van Gaal’s four forward’s only managed 26 league goals between them last season, so a player like Higuain would certainly give the Red Devils a real threat up front.
We’ll have to wait and see how Napoli react to the strikers demand to leave but I’d personally love to see the Argentinean come to England and he’d be a great buy for either Arsenal or United if they could get a deal agreed this summer.
