Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Double Injury Blow But Midfielder Passed Fit
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a double injury blow ahead of Thursday Europa League clash with Augsburg but a midfielder is set to return to the squad.
Liverpool will take on FC Augsburg in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday evening and Jurgen Klopp has given Liverpoolfc.com a team news update ahead of the game.
Unfortunately the Reds coach confirmed that Adam Lallana will miss the trip to Germany after failing to recover from a calf injury that kept him out of Sunday’s 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.
In a double blow, Klopp also revealed that Kevin Stewart is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury while attempting to block a shot in training at Melwood this week.
The youngster would have been hoping to feature on Thursday after making his Premier League debut against Villa at the weekend so he’ll be hoping for good news when the scan results come through.
However, there was some more positive news as Klopp confirmed that Lucas Leiva will be back in the squad after missing the trip to Villa Park on Sunday with a minor hamstring injury.
He told the clubs website:
“We lost Kevin Stewart in training. He blocked a shot and his ankle was not stable.
“It was a bit bruised so we have sent him for a scan. We think it’s the ligament.
“He trained outstandingly and then this happened. That’s not too good.”
“Lucas is back fit but not Adam – he has no chance for Thursday’s game,”
Klopp hasn’t prioritised the cup competitions following his arrival at Anfield but he may decide to field a strong line-up against Augsburg on Thursday as Liverpool have the weekend off after crashing out of the FA Cup at West Ham last week.
